Information about IFS Distance Courses

Payment of Fees

  • Course fees for full qualifications are GST FREE.
  • Fees (if applicable) must accompany your Enrolment Form - either a cheque or credit card details. The IFS accepts Visa and MasterCard.
  • Fees are NON REFUNDABLE after you commence your course. Commencement is defined as the day you receive your first batch of learning materials via Express Post.
  • At the discretion of the IFS, course fees may be held over until a later date due to medical and/or extraordinary circumstances.
  • Check with your employer regarding payment or reimbursement of fees. Many financial services organisations reimburse course fees after their employees have successfully completed the course.
  • If you pay your own course fees, they are Tax Deductible if the qualification relates to your employment.

"Special Offer" to Credit Unions and Building Societies!

For all Credit Unions and Building Societies who fund IFS training for their staff, we are pleased to make the following special offer:

  • Any staff members who are approved by the Credit Union or Building Society to enrol in one of our courses will not have to pay their fees when they enrol.
  • The employer is invoiced only for staff members who have successfully completed their modules.
  • Staff members must provide their credit card details to the IFS when they enrol. If they withdraw from their course before completion, the course fees will automatically be deducted from their credit card account.

This arrangement is a great incentive for staff morale. It also encourages shared responsibility in the training process. If staff members do not complete their modules they will have to pay their own course fees and consequently employers only pay for staff members who have kept to their study commitment.

Grading System

We have introduced a new grading system for Module Results for each qualification, as follows:

MARKS GRADE
80-84 Pass
85-89 Credit
90-94 Distinction
95-100 High Distinction

Credit Transfers, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) & Recognition of Current Competence (RCC)

The IFS recognises the skills and knowledge that you may have gained through previous studies and/or work and life experiences.

Credit Transfers are recognised if you have already completed a comparable module/s or competency/ies with a recognised educational institution (eg TAFE or a University).

RPL or RCC may be granted if you have documented evidence of work/life experience from previous or current employers.

To apply for Credit Transfers, RPL or RCC you must fill in an application form - available from the IFS or you can download it from this website. You are required to attach copies of your academic record and/or documented work experience and email, fax or mail it to the IFS.

A fee will apply to all applications for Credit Transfers, RPL or RCC.

If the exemption is granted then fees will not be charged for that/those module/s. Students applying for exemptions will be notified by telephone and mail of the outcome. The exemption is then noted on their academic record with the IFS.

To find out more about Credit Transfers, RPL or RCC, contact us here at the IFS.

Application Forms for RPL/RCC can be downloaded from the course information page for each qualification.  Alternatively, click on the qualification name below:

Tutor Support

Students can contact the IFS by telephone, fax or email for assistance.

If their enquiry cannot be answered by the administrative staff, they will give the student the mobile number and/or email of the appropriate tutor.

The tutor will answer your questions within 24 hours of you contacting them.

Appeals, Complaints & Grievances Policy

If a student is not satisfied with his/her assessment for a particular module they should contact the IFS. They will be required to re-submit their work with a written request for a re-mark and the reasons they believe their mark was inadequate.

If a student has a problem with the administrative or tutoring staff they should contact the IFS and ask to speak to Linda Rodden who is the Chief Executive of the East Coast Division.

Access & Equity Policy

All people who work in the financial services industry have access to IFS courses. There are only minimal requirements for entry into our courses. Work experience as well as life experience is taken into consideration for anyone who does not have secondary school educational qualifications.

By delivering our courses through Distance Learning all students have the course content delivered to them in the same format and have their skills and knowledge assessed equally throughout Australia.

Privacy Policy

All student information collected and stored by the IFS is confidential and is not divulged to any other person or organisation. Student details and records are kept on our database, in hard copy and upon graduation in an electronic format.

When enrolling, students are asked to supply personal details, which are entered on the IFS database. Students can update their information at any time via telephone, fax or email and it is processed immediately. The IFS will supply to any student, without delay, a copy of all information we hold on them.

NB: Students who enrol as Trainees are notified on the Enrolment Form which specific data is collected on behalf of the Government and forwarded to them.

Provision for Language, Literacy & Numeracy Assessment

The IFS caters to the financial services industry only and all employees in this industry must be literate and numerate to gain employment.

However, if a student is identified as having a problem in language, literacy or numeracy they are directed to contact TAFE OTEN by telephone on 1300 360 087 or by email at oten.llnp@tafensw.edu.au.
